Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene

Bird-window collisions are a leading cause of bird mortality in the United States, killing over one billion birds each year. These collisions peak during spring and fall migration, when birds travel long distances and often pass through urban areas. Situated along the Atlantic Flyway, Philadelphia provides essential stopover habitat for migrating birds. However, many never complete their journey, falling victim to window strikes and other man-made hazards.

Join us in honoring these birds by creating replicas of the most commonly affected species. These will become part of a powerful art installation—stretching the length of a football field—to memorialize the lives lost to this widespread issue.

We’ll also share practical tips and tools to make your windows bird-safe, spotlight the work of Bird Safe Philly, and highlight how Penn is taking action to become a more bird-friendly campus.
