Jeanne Blissett-Robertson - Another Way of Knowing

During her residency at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, ceramic artist Jeanne Blissett-Robertson began a collaborative project with geochemist Dr. Jon Hawkings and his team at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hawkings' group study the ecosystem effects of glacial melting in the Arctic and how elements are released into glacial meltwater and then incorporated into downstream biogeochemical cycles. In June 2024 Robertson was invited to join them for two weeks of their fieldwork in Greenland to participate in collecting water samples.

Another Way of Knowing is an exhibition that brings together Blissett-Robertson's personal experience of the monumental Arctic ice-scape, research into the history of Arctic exploration, and snapshots of of Dr. Hawkings' research on mercury content of meltwater. A micro-macro approach for this project has been taken in order to highlight the complex web of activity that lies beneath the fragile frozen north.
