Prof. Nicolas Martin is a Clinical Professor in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Sheffield (UK). He has a keen interest in the pursuit of all aspects of pedagogy, research and the clinical domains of his discipline. Professor Martin is Head of the Academic Unit of Restorative Dentistry and the Programme Director for the three-year specialty clinical doctorate educational programme with extensive learning & teaching commitments.
Prof. Martin has a strong personal research profile as principal investigator in relevant collaborative multi-disciplinary projects, with a focus on sustainability, pedagogy and the clinical performance of restorative systems.
Within the field of sustainability research, he is currently leading on a number of major funded projects with associated published outputs: The environmental impact of dental restorative materials; A baseline study of plastic waste in medical and dental healthcare; Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of dental restorative materials; Waste management from dental amalgam in municipal water systems; and Plastic packaging in healthcare.
Prof. Martin chairs the World Dental Federation (FDI) Task Team for Sustainable Dentistry.
