Penn Science Cafe: Plants on a Warming Planet

As climate change reshapes our world, human health, food security, infrastructure, and wild ecosystems are all under threat. Increased plant adaptability and resilience is key to the health of our natural systems. Join Doris Wagner, Corlett Wood, and Aman Husbands to hear more about the full complexity of plant responses to climate change and learn how the work of the School of Arts and Sciences’ newly launched Plant ARC will address the critical need to engineer and select for plants that can survive, and thrive, in a rapidly changing climate.

Speakers

Doris Wagner

Doris Wagner

DiMaura Professor of Biology

Doris Wagner, the DiMaura Professor of Biology, studies how plants change their cell functions during growth and in response to the environment. By understanding how plants reprogram themselves, her research aims to improve plant adaptability and resilience in changing conditions.

Corlett Wood

Corlett Wood

Assistant Professor of Biology

Corlett Wood is an Assistant Professor of Biology in the School of Arts & Sciences. Her lab studies the evolution, ecology, and genetics of species interactions in the plant root microbiome.

Aman Husbands

Aman Husbands

Assistant Professor of Biology

Aman Husbands is the Mitchell J. Blutt and Margo Krody Blutt Presidential Assistant Professor of Biology. His lab studies how complex biological processes remain so reliable and consistent despite their complexity.
