Chemical fume hoods use up to 3.5 times the amount of energy as a single family house each day. Since Penn has over 1,000 fume hoods on campus, there is a huge opportunity to lower energy consumption on campus by shutting the sash. Throughout the month of October, Penn's Green Labs Program is running the first annual "Shut the Sash" Challenge for lab personnel who work in hoods. To participate, fill out the survey by October 31, 2024 and be entered into a raffle to win prizes for your lab!
